  • Cold Stone Creamery (Page 311, 314)
Cold Stone Creamery is closed. Unfortunately the location this franchise chose in Greenwich was lacking nearby parking. If you want to have the fun of making a special ice cream sundae, you can still go to their location in Stamford at 1109 High Ridge Road. Cold Stone won our ice cream contest.

Restaurants - New Reviews

  • Acuario (Peruvian)
163 North Main Street, Port Chester, NY
    (914) 931-2338
If you like Ceviche, this a must-dine spot. Their overlarge sign "Cevicheria Y Mas" makes this clear. As might be expected with the name Acuario, Aquariums with pretty little fish are the restaurants main decorations. Not dressy, but certainly not your local dive. Even though there is a wide selection of Peruvian seafood and other entrees, we prefer to skip the entrees and order the generous sized Ceviche, followed by their good flan. We especially like the Pescado Ceviche. If you order an entre, try the Pescado Saltado. The Peruvian soft drinks must be an acquired taste.
Hours: Open every day, except Tuesday. Lunch, Noon - 4 PM, Dinner 5 PM - 9 PM, (Friday and Saturday until 11 PM)
Prices: Lunch: Soup, Salad and Entree, $8-$10; Dinner entrees, $10 to $20.

  • Ash Creek Saloon (American, casual)
2 Wilton Avenue, Norwalk, CT 203.847.7500
We are willing to travel a distance from Greenwich for a fun experience. When we went to Ash Creek, we were certainly glad we made a reservation. This very large restaurant was packed with families and folks of all ages. Ash Creek has transformed what was formerly a hat factory into an informal, nostalgic, cowboy style restaurant. Even with the large number of tables, the service was quick and friendly. The portions were large. The food may not be completely authentic Texas, or even Oklahoma, but it was still delicious. Where else can you find Chicken Fried Steak? The BBQ Beef Brisket is also a winner.
    Hours: Open Everyday, Monday-Sunday, 11:30 AM - 10 PM.
Prices: Sandwiches, $8-$15; Barbecues, $16-$28; Other Entrees, $17-28; Buckaroos Menu (12 and under), all selections $8.

  • Avenida (Mexican)
    339 Greenwich Avenue, 622.1400
Like Bleu, which formerly occupied this space, Avenida is a busy, trendy, hip restaurant, where the bar is designed to be a meeting place. The orange and copper ceiling, with the black and white walls remind us of a piano keyboard. One of their many tequilas or Margaritas may be a prerequisite to appreciating the decor. The service is welcoming and friendly. The Guacamole and chips are a must. The entrees are interpretations of traditional Mexican dishes. A great place to meet a friend.
Hours: Lunch, Monday-Saturday, Noon - 2:30; Dinner, Monday to Sunday, 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM (Friday & Saturday to 10:30).
    Prices: Lunch Entrees, $14 - $20; Dinner Entrees, $18 - $32.

  • Louie's (Southern  Italian)

    422-2177
Ron Rosa, owner of Polpo Restaurant, has opened another restaurant serving southern Italian food.

  • Crew Restaurant (American, New)
280 Railroad Avenue, Greenwich, CT 340.9433
This restaurant is like one you love to discover following a day of skiing: wood paneling, a large bar and 18 small tables covered in white cloths. Charming Martial Gramond greeted us warmly and we were in the perfect mood for a relaxed happy evening. We were not disappointed. The pita and dips arrived with our menu. We ordered wines by the glass from a unique selection of which they are justifiably proud. Every item on the menu was available in a small plate or entree size. We ordered a number of small plates which were ample and good. Gramond who has been general manager of three very successful restaurants in town told us he grew up in France with a Paris restauranteur father. Although the menu can be called "contemporary", expect some French and South American touches. It is likely everyone in your party will find something tasty. Two dishes we especially liked were the Tuna sliders and the Pancetta. Because the restaurant is new, the hours and the menu are likely to change. Long ago we enjoyed dining in this spot when it was a Thai restaurant. The next occupant, Quattro Figli was also popular. We think diners will soon discover Crew is a favorite too.
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 5 PM - 11 PM, Friday & Saturday, 5 PM - Midnight, Sunday, 4 PM - 10 PM. Presently they are open only for dinner, soon they will be serving lunch. Like all new restaurants, these hours may change.
Prices: Dinner Entrees, $18-$23 as a large plate and $10-$17 as a small plate.

  • Elms Restaurant & Tavern (American)
500 Main Street (Route 35), Ridgefield, CT, 203.438.9206
Overnight Accommodations at the Elms Inn, 203.438.2541
Steve and Kathleen treated us to a warm and happy evening at the Elms, one of their Ridgefield favorites. We were with good friends, the food was yummy and plentiful, the vintage dining room in the 200 year old house was charming and cozy, and the service was friendly and attentive. No background music, no noise, just sounds of conversation and laughter. The menu has American heritage favorites, such as veal in sherry cream sauce and potted brisket of beef. For starters we recommend the New England clam chowder and beet salad. The Tavern side does not require a reservation. It is more informal and somewhat noisier. Don’t forget to reserve a table on the porch during warm weather. For a romantic weekend, request one of 23 charming rooms (including 6 suites), some with poster beds at the Elms Inn next door. Fall is gorgeous in this town filled with vintage homes and antiques shops, so be sure to reserve well in advance.
Hours: Lunch, Wednesday - Sunday, 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM; Dinner, Wednesday - Sunday, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM (Friday & Saturday until 10 PM).
    Prices: Dinner: Starters, $8 - $14; Tavern Favorites, $14 - $21; Entrees, $24 - $33.

  • Mark Mariani's Garden Center and Cafe (American, Casual)
    45 Bedford Road, Armonk NY
    (914) 273-3083
This stylish greenhouse garden center with rare trees, shrubs, and decorative pottery for sale has a cafe open for breakfast and lunch. I loved my fresh fig salad and lemonade and I can't wait to return.
Hours: The cafe is open 7 days a week from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
    Prices: Breakfast $6.50 - $9.50; Lunch $9.50 - $16.50

  • Napa & Company (American, New)
    75 Broad Street, Stamford
    353-3319
Located in the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, Napa & Company is off to a good start. They know that dining out should not only be good food, but fun too. When we saw the menu, we soon realized this was a tasting party. All kinds of wines by the glass, 25 different cheeses, interesting small plate servings and a short list of unusual main course entrees. Whimsical descriptions of the wines and cheeses, for instance (assertive tangy with barnyard aroma), made choosing fun. Our waiter knew his wine and cheese, and gave us very good recommendations. In fact, we all liked everything we tried. The menu changes often to allow the use of local seasonal organic produce. The ambiance is chic modern, with bottle lined walls. The bar crowd became increasingly noisy throughout the evening, and even though the tables are nicely spaced, conversation became challenging. The dining room is called The Kitchen. An adjoining shop, called the Pantry, is a gourmet grocery.
    Prices: Lunch entrees, $15- $30; Dinner entrees, $26 - $39, with a Napa Wagyu (kobe-style beef) Burger for $18.
    Hours: Breakfast, daily 6:30 am - 10am; Lunch, Sunday - Friday, 11:30 am - 2:30 pm (Sunday Brunch 11 am to 4 pm); Dinner, Monday - Saturday, 5:30 - 10 pm.

  • Nessa (Italian)
325 North Main Street, Port Chester, NY 914.939.0119
When you are ready for a perky twist to Italian cuisine, try this charming enoteca named after co-owner Marc Tessitore’s wife Vanessa. Intimate, with glowing candles and low light, Nessa has seating for 76. The main part of the restaurant is lively and noisy. At the back of the restaurant is a quieter, romantic space, with seating for 10. In our first visits the wait staff was overwhelmed when the restaurant was full. We were delighted in recent visits to find the service swift and attentive. Bruschettas and Panini are featured; you can even have a Panini with Nutella and bananas for dessert. We are fond of starting with the prosciutto bruschetta (ricotta and figs) followed by the linguine con vongole. Be sure to reserve on weekends.
    Hours
    : Closed Tuesday; Lunch, Monday - Saturday, 11:30am - 3:30 pm; Dinner Monday-Saturday, 5:30pm -10pm (Friday & Saturday until 11 PM).

  • Nicholas Roberts Fine Foods (American, New)
    75 Main Street, Norwalk, CT
    (203) 838-5823
We wish this restaurant were closer. We like chef-owner Robert Troilo’s good food, as well as his concept of keeping his restaurant costs down so he can pass on savings to his customers. Unfortunately, this also means they do not accept credit cards. The pleasant, minimally decorated, informal backboard lined dining room can seat 22 people. The restaurant is about good food and friendly service. The chef will probably ask if you liked what he prepared. They do no have a liquor license. Bring your own wine, if you don’t mind their $5 corkage fee. The menu may change with the seasons, but if they offer two soups in a bowl (butternut squash and asparagus), be sure to order it. We also like their Swiss chard wrapped monk fish.
    Hours: Lunch, Monday - Friday, 11 AM - 3 PM; Brunch Saturday & Sunday, 10 AM - 3 PM; Dinner, Wednesday-Saturday, 7 AM - 9 PM.
    Prices: Lunch entrees, $7 - $12; Dinner entrees, $15 - $20.
